The Directors Cut was the first version of the film I saw so I always assumed he was part of the movie, until I saw the original and they cut that scene right out. Its a shame not just for Pilato's cameo, but it also adds a little more insight to the zombie panic and how a lot of people are clearing out or deserting. Aside from that scene you only hear how other people are running so it almost feels like its just our quartet of protagonists that are fleeing from it all. I love his exchange though

This scene also helped cause the "Rhodes" rumor.

I doubt that the character was supposed to be a younger Rhodes. George probably remembered Pilato from his Dawn appearance & wanted to cast him in a bigger role in Day. Damn good choice too. Loved Joe as Rhodes.

Loved Joe as Rhodes. I gotta agree on that too. Its too much of a stretch to say the Police Dock Looter (Pilato) later became Rhodes

Yep, no way he was intended to be a younger Rhodes. Not a chance.

Yep, no way he was intended to be a younger Rhodes. Not a chance. Not to mention it also brings a case of GLS (George Lucas Syndrome) to the franchise when you try to shoehorn in connections between the characters of all the different movies. It also makes the Romero universe seem smaller by doing so.
