Okay. You guys know I'm pretty critical of GAR's work. Especially as a screenwriter. His characters are two-dimensional. Cookie-cutters taken from whatever's trendy at the time. Their dialogue is rarely representative of the characters speaking it. There are serious problems with the pacing of the plot. Too many attempts at catch-phrases. Poor technical research. The list goes on and on.... BUT...say you were presented with a mini-series that corrected all of that. Great plot and character development. Eight of the ten episodes don't even have zombies in them. Lots of backstory. Would you go for it? Or, does it have to be all zombies and camp all the time? Would you want to finally see a serious take on the genre--the way the vamps and werewolves have already have? Enquiring minds want to know...

I sure as hell would. Sounds like a good idea to me.

It's just that no one has every really put effort into a zombie screenplay. Just attempts at schlock horror.
I'm wondering if zombie and horror fans would go for an involved screenplay with characters that have alot going on to begin with...and then the zombies are thrust into their lives, changing everything.

I'd love to see a serious zombie epic.
See, I'm in the camp that takes GAR's original trilogy as serious... but that doesn't mean I'm against something taken to the next level. A "Godfather" of zombie films if you will.
I've actually always thought a serious zombie television series would be an outstanding idea, especially if done on HBO or Showtime. And a lot of episodes wouldn't even need to have zombies... the show would be mostly a character drama with a zombie outbreak as the premise. You could have whole episodes where the survivors are holed up, or perhaps scouring for supplies... you'd have what all great dramas have (character development, backstory, etc). I sort of envision it as a more serious, dark version of the television show LOST... like that show, where the main concept is survivors of a plane crash on a deserted island, but the episodes are mainly about story and characters.
I think it could be a serious hit.
Has anyone ever read the comic books, The Walking Dead? That would be an almost PERFECT thing to adapt into a show.

Yep, Image publishes them. They are incredible. I haven't gotten them in a while, but the ones I have (I started collecting from the beginning) kick ass.

There's a ton of them on ebay for $2. I'm gonna get the trade paperbacks. It's the easiest way to read stuff that has been out for a while, instead of collecting all of the issues.

I dont read comics so I'll have to pass, but I would love to see a serious take on zombies. We've seen the world fall apart in various ways a ton of times. How about how one family deals with survival and loss? I'd love to see that.
