In Land of the Dead, one of the most infamous weapons is Cholo's spear gun (we all know the one ), which seems to work extremely well on zombies, even without getting a head-shot. But there are a few problems with it.
1. How does Cholo reload it?
2.where does he keep his ammo, he is never seen carrying it around?
3.He has no other weapons, so if he carries no ammo and it is as hard to reload like a real spear gun, how would he defend himself against a large crowd of zombies?
This weapon is most definitely the coolest weapon in any Romero move, but it would need to be improved to become a proper zombie killing machine.

It would appear to be spring loaded and he reloads it by inserting the spears into the muzzle He keeps the bolts/spears for his speargun in a bandolier around his boot. Actually it appears he had a SIG Sauer P228 as a backup weapon. I didn't remember seeing it either, but its shown when he turns in his weapons before his meeting with Kaufman. But on the subject of Cholo facing off a group of Zombies, yes he would be a bit screwed but so would any of the characters. The only people able to sufficiently take on any large groups or hordes of zombies would be the crew on the Dead Reckoning.
