I tried gaming on Steam once, but I got turned off of it because I had a high ping so people kept booting me from the server. Pissed me off.

Yeah that would suck. I wonder if there's anything you can do to improve your ping.

There's probably not a helluva lot I can do since I'm all the way over in Oz; however, I was using my wireless modem at the time so that probably didn't help much. I suppose I could just unplug my ADSL cable from the xbox and use that. I doubt it will make a huge difference but it'd probably be a lot better then using wireless.
I gotta say though I find I can't play on the PC for as long as I used to. Using a laptop certainly exacerbates things, but I get cramps in my forearm and back trying to use a keyboard for gaming. Using a controller is far more comfortable for me at the moment.

Oh I agree, fully. I only game on my Macbook occasionally. I make it even harder on myself by using the touchpad instead of a mouse! I have to say though, I've adapted pretty well to it. I have a mouse I could plug in, but now I prefer using the touchpad haha. At the end of the day, however, a controller is where it's at for me.
