Hello one and all.
I've been a MASSIVE zombie fan since the early 80s when a friend told me of a movie where these guys broke into a shopping mall - the idea fasinated me...a couple of years later I managed to watch the film and I've been forever hooked!
The reason I'm posting is because I'm concerned! It seems these days zombies need to be fast and "ultra scary". To me this is 'lazy' writing, these are not zombies but infected people...but that's another story...
As I said I'm concerned that true zombies might get lost to this new 'generation' - thankfully The Walking Dead has shown us that people do still love a decent zombie flick.
Anyway, I've gone waaay off topic, I'm posting because I recently introduced my son to the Dead films. We watched Night a few months ago and last week we watched Dawn. I love Dawn. It's the best zombie movie ever IMHO. Sure there's some dodgy bits, but as a whole it's fantastic. I remember the old days, I managed to get all the versions available and with a set of video recorders I made my own 'ultimate' edition! It's amazing how much was cut from the UK release ;D
So, he's loving the films too...and we can't wait to start on Day - tho he's still a little under 18 (ahem) so I may leave it a little bit longer as the effects were quite realistic compared to Dawn (tho it's been a few years since I watched it).
Anyone else out there introducing the next generation to Dead?
<edit> oh yeah, and sorry for the lack of 'cool' username!

First off, welcome to the boards! Post often, post well. Don't be an omer (don't worry....you'll catch on to what that means).
As for your question, ah....I was hoping. When my sister had kids, when one of her kids had kids, when my other sister adopted two great kids, when my best friend had two boys....I was so looking forward to Uncle Tim bringing DVD's over and having a little creature features thing.
Sadly, they're all a bunch of Big Girls Blouses. Seriously, one of my nieces had nightmares from Cocoon and her sister gets freaked out by the original Planet of the Apes. How do you work with people like THAT?

Welcome! Great first post, and I can't agree more about modern day zombies.
I've introduced a few folks to the DEAD films, and they seem to have liked em. It's tough though... not a ton of people are gung-ho about old zombie movies.

Welcome goonergaz. I think its a cool username. Seriously as long as you don't pick a name that's professes a love for weed or written in L337 language you can't go wrong.
You also sound like an awesome Dad. I hope one day I can pass the Romero zombie torch to my own kids one day.
Well said, yeah it sucks that the shamblers are becoming an endangered species amongst the hyped up MTV zombies. Though it seems to be what the younger generation want. The shamblers are just too slow for their short attention spans.

I ask because I know I didn't really get into zombies till about 15 or 16. Also I didn't just jump straight into the Romero movies. Resident Evil 1 was my gateway movie, which inspired me to seek out other zombie movies and then I heard Romero's name thrown about a lot. That drew my attention to Day of the Dead and the rest is history.

Resident Evil 1 was my gateway movie Great point, this was also my sons first zombie flick...I think it's a great way of introducing new people to the genre due to it being based on a game and 'real' zombies.
