That's the title of my own zombie piece that I'm working on.
To answer FE's question--I'm using the GAR shamblers. They're what I grew up on, and even though there are newer and faster models, I'm sticking to the old school zombies because deep down they're my first zombie loves.
It's set in my old hometown of Cicero, Illinois--a place rich with history that's notorious across the country for two things: Organized Crime and racism. It begins in the late 1970s, and comes to a head in 1999.
We follow two stories that are on a collision course.
The first is a love triangle involving a Homicide Detective, his saintly wife (a Kindergarten teacher), and their best friend--a dangerous woman with alot to hide. The second follows a couple of punk bastard kids who we watch grow up into a life of crime.
When the Detective's wife is accidentally killed in a botched Mob hit, he and their best friend swear revenge...but when it gets to the point where his infant son is threatened, he calls off the violence. He still burns for revenge, though...and when the dead rise almost twenty years later, he sees his chance and goes for it--pitting him against the kids (who are now grown up) and their Boss, who just happen to share the same rescue station as him.
That's it. In a nutshell. ;D

That sounds really cool.
Is the Detective the guy who has a problem with killing the zeds?
Noticed you are going with the Rescue Station deal.

Well...it's a very long and complicated story, baby!
When I stared it, I set out to finally give the zombie genre what I felt it deserved--a good screenplay with character development that didn't rely on catch phrases or lame plot devices designed to just give the ghouls something to munch on.
The characters are all very complicated people full of flaws. I tried to get it so that you could really side with either the gangsters of the cops...and there are several times where the viewer could flip and wind up sympathizing with the "other side". I'm giving the audience unique takes on the phenomenon while sticking to the roots of the genre. And, the Town is just as much a character as the people in it.
I don't know...what would you like to know? Ask me anything. What...you want something juicy, zombie-wise? ;D

We watch him grow up from a little kid of three into a monster at 25. He's also a "cop" of sorts--he's a Deputy Sheriff who uses his position to help him in his illegal activities. Ironically, he would be the best equipped psychologically to deal with the situation--he has no conscience and kills at will or on command. But, he's careful about it, and (like I said) is worried about getting pinched for murder down the road after things get back "to normal".

Sounds really cool.
So is he one of those characters that is tough on the surface, but deep down he is really insecure? Kind of like Steele?
Edit:
It sounds like that gangster is a mix of real life people, no?

Edit: It sounds like that gangster is a mix of real life people, no? Actually--he's just the opposite. He doesn't use profanity. He's polite and soft spoken. He's not a wannabe tough guy. He'll kill you dead as a double cheeseburger and not give a shit...but, he's also paranoid. He's a classic sociopath who suffers from egocentrism--a form of paranoia that causes him to think that the entire world revolves around him. He's worried that the Detective (who by Z Day is the Police Commissioner) and his people will try and fuck him and take him down later on for the shit he might have to do to survive. And, yes--they're all based on people I know in real life, and many of the situations actually occurred. Except for the zombies, of course. ;D

Kind of reminds me of the Iceman. That was one sick mf'er.
It's interesting how sociopaths like Ted Bundy were usually soft spoken, and somewhat educated.
So do the Commish and everyone else on the force know what he is doing, but throw a blind eye to it?
He certainly does display Anti-Social behaviors. He essentially kills without reason or remorse. He simply does it for the sake of doing it, or being told to do it. It's just another day in his life, no big deal. But on the other hand, if he is paranoid about others taking him down for doing what he does, then that might mean that he shows a little remorse. But not for his victims, only for himself, which goes back to the egocentric/narcissistic behavior.

The Commissioner is the head of the Cicero PD. The guy we're talking about is a ghost payroller for the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
As for the Commish knowing about him--yeah, he knows who and what he is. But, it's not what you know, it's what you can prove...so he remains at large.
A good way to think of this gangster is Mr Blonde from "Reservoir Dogs"...but played by Johnny Galecki. ;D
