The four disc of DAWN is great. I commend Anchor Bay and I commend the producers who put it together.
But...
I'm kind of drawn to purchase the single disc that came out just before the four-disc to have on my shelf so that the series quasi-matches. I mean, placing a boxset between NIGHT and DAY. It's weird, right?
I'm kind of at a stage in my movie-viewing life when extras mean less and less to me and the films mean more and more. (This applies to everything but Phantasm, of course.)
Anyone else choose the 1-disc over the 4-disc?

I see what you mean. For me though, well I'm a special features whore. It stems from my sheer fascination with how films are made. I really dig "making of" stuff. I also love commentary tracks. I'm going in the opposite direction as you. I used to care less about any features. Now I don't buy a disc unless it at least has some. I loathe bare bones DVD's, and I mean L O A T H E. I have the 4 disc. It's what I was recommended to purchase by Tony.
That's my penny.

I bought the one disc version to hold me over until the Ultimate Edition came out. Before that, Dawn of the Dead was out of print & kind of hard to come by for a decent price.
The Ultimate Edition box set sits proudly on my shelf between the Night of the Living Dead 40th Anniversary Edition & the 2-disc Divimax special edition of Day of the Dead. ;D
It all depends on if you're into special features or not. The fourth disc has some great things on it.

I can honestly say that i have never seen a 4 disc version of Dawn of in the UK.
I have a single disc version which has a documentary (a pretty long one at that) and a few other bits and pieces.
I'm another person who loves all the added extra's, Making of's, cast/crew interviews etc.

I love the features and all the extras. To me it only enhances the movie itself

Let me put it this way, I used to own the one disc edition, but sold it when I got the four disc, which I still have. How can anyone choose the one disc edition over the four disc? The only reason I can come up with is if you don't have the cash for the four disc version, but if you have some extra cash, I can not fathom actually choosing the single disc edition over the four disc one. You get the exposure of three versions of the film, plus the bonus disc cram packed with stuff, plus a Dawn of the Dead comic book in the box. How can you go wrong?

I liked the extended cut.

I stray away from the Euro cut. Something about another person cutting a film that isn't his to his own liking... it gets under my skin for some reason.

I wouldn't call it bad. It's just not my cup of tea. It might have something to do with my dislike of action flicks. I'm not really a huge fan of "shoot'em up" type stuff.

I thought it was a good version if you want to see action. I'm an action junkie so I liked it. Extended is still my favourite though.

For collector's purposes, I'm going to get the older Anchor Bay Dawn of the Dead DVDs. I know where I can get the gold foil release that came out before the Ultimate Edition for a few bucks so that one's in the bag. I'll look on Ebay & Amazon for the other two. I'm not paying top dollar for any of 'em. Looks like I'll have to wait awhile to get this one: No way I'm paying $35 for it though.(cheapest price on Amazon right now) I'm also getting this one:

I love that last cover. It fits in well with the period that the film was shot in. Classic late 70's/ Early 80's.

My friend had a copy of it years ago when it was ultra rare. I wanted it off him but he wouldn't get rid of it. Jerk. Funny thing is that he's not a huge fan of these movies like I am.
The above were pretty rare up until the 2004 AB release of Dawn.

Was there a time when Dawn wasn't released on DVD, or was it released in short supply?
