Dawn of the Dead has my favourite ending. Peter decides to go with Fran instead of killing himself. They lift off in the WGON helicopter at dawn with hardly any fuel. It's left up to us what happens to them.
Peter: How much fuel do we have? Fran: Not much. Peter: All right.

Dawn by far. No contest, really.

While I liked Day better, Dawn had a much better ending. The great unknown was to me more chilling than the zombies

I agree. The unknown is so much better than a concrete ending. Even if the original ending were filmed, I would still prefer that over any of the others. I thought the ending to Day was okay. The idea of the zombies always getting the one up in the end gets old.

I agree that Dawn has the best ending of all the films; its creative.

Night is my favorite ending. Its a timeless ending. Honestly to me Dawn's ending is nothing special at all. It's ambigious, sure, but not in any interesting way at all. And the music they slapped on the theatrical print is just horrendous. I've never watched that ending with any of my friends and NOT have them crack up at that music when Peter decides to roll! and Day was like huh what happened? Land? They let the zombies go! and by the ending of Diary i just didn't give a crap sadly.

The music makes you think that they won in the end. But with them having little fuel... did they?

I felt a little flat after seeing Dawn for the first time to be honest. I preferred Day and felt genuinely relieved for them that they had managed to get away after what they had been through at the hands of Rhodes etc. There was always that doubt in the back of my mind about the safety of John's 'island' though given what was happening in the world but that faint glimmer of hope amongst all the chaos was nice to see IMHO.

Didn't like the ending of the Land much even though I love the film ( why didn't they kill the zombies after all the carnage they did) ?. I think Day & Dawn had better endings.

How did I miss this thread?
Oh well, I selected Day since it was the first Dead movie I saw, and I'm a bit of sucker for happy, (but not sappy) endings and sandy tropical beaches (although the ending could also be interpreted as some kind of Jacob's ladder type hallucination that sarah was going through while getting her brains munched on by the helicopter zombie)

I like the ending to Day becaise it shows some of Greg Nicotero's and Tom Savini's best work. I love Rickles' death, they don't just eat him, they f**king tear him apart, man!
