Peter was never intended to go on the WGON chopper. It was just supposed to be Stephen, Fran, and Roger. Peter just happened to be in the right place at the right time to have Roger ask him along.
How differently do you think things would have been if the "intended 3" were the only ones who boarded the chopper? Would they even have made it to the mall? What would have went differently?

They probably would have not stayed in the mall for starters...

I'm tired and about to hit the hay, so I'll give you a quick answer.
They would have been straight up fucked. Stephen is less than adequate with a firearm, Fran is pregnant and Roger is erratic.

I am going to need to rewatch Dawn again, and write down every scene involving peter to see if it would have made a drastic change.

One scene that comes to mind quickly is when the first get into the mall. Roger and Peter go shopping while Flyboy mulls around the boiler room. After that Flyboy sees Peter in the hall, Fly wanted to go up the stairwell to their hideout, which would have led the zeds straight to them. If it wasn't for Peter coaxing him to run down the hall, Fly and Fran whould have been Zombie Kibble.

Very Interesting thread. Yeah I'm of the opinion they would've been up shithill creek without a paddle as well, mostly because Roger proved to not have the most level head something that Peter brought to the table along with Leadership skills and good situational awareness. If Roger was calling the shots he probably would've gotten the group killed.
Another scene that comes to mind is when Fran and Steven went to the Police Dock to meet with Roger, and the Cops at the dock considered taking their chopper; the sight of both Peter and Roger in SWAT uniforms deterred them from doing anything silly but had of Roger just rocked up by himself who's to say they might not of been tempted to take the Chopper by force or steal their supplies. After all they had the upper hand by having more man power and weapons.

Both are great points. Roger paired up with Stephen would have created a disaster without Peter.

I definitely think that Peter was the leader of the group, without him they would not have lasted as long as they did.

The whole thing would have fallen apart without Peter.

They would have refueled in the same place, Flyboy would've fucked up, Roger would have stepped in. They would have landed on the mall, taken the canned food, flown away, found somewhere else to go and die because Peter wasn't there to help.

They would have landed on the mall, taken the canned food, flown away, found somewhere else to go and die because Peter wasn't there to help. Interesting thought deadfreak. Now that you mention it Peter did egg Roger on a bit when they were resting saying things like "there's an awful lot of stuff in there that we could use" and Roger gets that gleam in his eyes. Without that encouragement and having the backup of another capable person(Peter) Roger probably wouldn't of been as game to try for a shopping spree. I can also see Fran being able to exert more influence over Stephen without Peter around. When Peter joined the group Roger and him became a tight knit group and you can see instances of Stephen wanting to be one of "the boys" and not wanting to appear pussy whipped in front them; however, if you take Peter away it greatly changes the dynamic of the group where Stephen is more likely to listen to Fran (who wanted to continue north) particularly if he wanted to maintain his relationship with her. In the Peter-less group Pussy Power Rules supreme and science proves it. Roger + Peter > Fran + Vagina = "One of the Boys" Roger (3rd Wheel) < Fran + Vagina = "Yes Dear"

They would've died at the refueling stop because Flyboy was a dink.
Meanwhile, Peter, having access to much more ammo and better guns, would've single handedly cleaned up the city and the undead would've decapitated themselves out of fear of his badassedness.
That's right. Peter would've saved the whole world by being just that cool.
