One of my all-time favourite scumbags. This version of Cooper was a tad more likeable that Tom Towles version from the remake. Tom Towles' Cooper was a complete asshole & unlikeable in every way. Rest in peace, Karl Hardman.

It's a true shame he passed away, and fairly recently at that.
Even though he played a jerk in NIGHT, he was very likable at times. I always thought it was very uncharacteristic of Ben to shoot Cooper. He was just scared, as anyone would be. He did, to be fair, have his fair share of asshole moments though!
Anyway, I hope Karl is up in that big cellar in the sky. Rest in peace.

One of my all-time favourite scumbags. Ahahahha. He was a likeable a-hole. It's kind of a struggle, like or not like. We understand his position, but we think he's a dick at the same time. This is one of the things that made Night a classic.

I agree he was likable and you understood his position, and in truth his character was right about going to the cellar it seems. Tom Towles take on the character was so unlikable you were glad to see him dead.

R.I.P. Karl Hardman.....The Real Harry Cooper! Not bashing Tom Towle but, I think his Cooper was way to unrealistic......but, then again I though the Night remaked sucked .....all of them.....and the 30th annivesary was all ewwww.

I actually liked Tom Towles as Harry... See--Tom is from Chicago, and in that movie he's doind a VERY heavy Cicero accent. He even mutters a very distinct Cicero-ism: "....if you can believe THAT!" It's good to see one of my own up there on the big screen, you know?

Perhaps "scumbag" was too harsh of a term for Hardman's portrayal of Cooper. It definitely applies to Tom Towles' Cooper though.
Despite '68 Cooper's assholeism, he was likeable. He helped out more & worked with the group than Towles did. Towles just spouted out hilarious insults like "lamebraaaaaaaainssss!" & "yo-yos!" His usage of those insults inspired me to use them too.

So true, Flyboy. Towles was just a pain in the ass. He gets his in the end. In the remake, Ben doesn't get bit... right? So how is he a zombie? Did he just die because of the gun wound?

I really dig the changes made in the remake. I remember the first time I saw it when I was like 9, I got all excited because someone actually did what I always said I would do... hide in the attic!

Yes, Ben died from his gunshot wounds. That's what I thunk'd. What a crappy way to become a zombie. Atleast he had smokes

See, Harry, in the original, to me was really not a bad guy. He was simply doing what he thought was best for his daughter. He was a father of a little girl who had been attacked by one of the walking dead. I don't think he acted the way he did just to be an ass. I think he has been through a lot. His car was turned over. He and his wife with an injured child had to hike for miles until they found shelter. He was affraid for his daughter's life and simply had been through enough crap. I can fully understand the mood he was in. That is why I don't think he was really an asshole. I just think he had been through so much that he had had it. I think his temperment was understandable. Had any of us been through everything he has been through, I'm sure we would be able to understand where he was coming from.

Good points, but he still does have some pretty inexcusable asshole moments... like when he locks the door behind Ben and doesn't let him back in. Things like that keep him firmly cemented in the "lovable asshole" category in my opinion.
