I agree with Blacknight on may points. The thing about Romero's living dead films is that it is a series of films that show reverse evolution. The problem begins in Night. The world begins to fall apart in Dawn. All hope is lost in Day. A new civilization is created in Land (and super controlled by power hungry politicians).
One can not help think of the events leading up to, the event, the after math of the event, and the now current day politics of 9/11.

Land is a great film. It is definitely in league with the first three. Diary is different. It is more of a concept film. As that it works wonderfully, but as a Romero's living dead film it does not stand up.
To add to my little observation, in the new civilization controlled by the super power hungry politicians, Diary represents the way the media is shown (only through the view point of one point of view, being from one person and one camera) and how it can manipulate one's opinion on what is going on.
The interesting thing about Diary is that it was shown through one person's camera which is one person's point of view. You can't help thinking about CNN (being only liberal) or Fox News (being only conservative).

I love the bit right at the begining. When the street is empty and then fills up with the zombies. Even the day can be scary. The atmostphere is great.
