When a government-run lab accidentally lets loose a deadly virus, the population of the world is decimated. Survivors begin having dreams about two figures: a mystical old woman, or a foreboding, scary man. As the story tracks various people, we begin to realize that the two figures exemplify basic forces of good and evil, and the stage is set for a final confrontation between the representatives of each Ive never read the book but i really enjoyed the mini-series,the ending was a bit much but the rest of it was pretty good, the full thing is on for around 6 hours and its an epic watch,i liked the characters of trashcan man and harold lauder best.

This is based on my favorite King novel, and though a bit cheesy (it's made-for-TV) it's still pretty damned great! Anyone who's into post-apocalyptic fiction should love it.

I remember when this mini-series came on the tube. I was too young to really appreciate it, so I will have to pick it up on disc at some point. I have seen it used for a song.

I have the complete & uncut book but haven't read it yet. I've seen bits & pieces of the mini series but can't really remember anything. It's a DVD I want to pick up sometime.

You two should both check it out. If you're not up to paying for the DVD, Sci-Fi network airs it at least twice a year. It should be coming around again soon.

I picked the 2 disc special edition DVD up used a few weeks ago for $10. I normally wouldn't pay that much for something used but the DVD is out of print if you get it by itself. It's in a set with a few other movies but that set is about $40 in stores & I don't really want the other two at the moment.

I can't believe this thread passed me by.
The Stand is probably my favourite King book as well, I haven't read a Post Apocalyptic book that can rival it yet (although maybe World War Z can give it a bit of a run for its money). Love the Uncut/extended version, just adds so much more to the story then they could all fit in the mini series.
My favourite Episodes would probably be Part 1 & 2, they feature some great and haunting intros. 3&4 are ok but it becomes less about the end of civilisation and more about the battle of good vs evil.
And Rhodes I'm assuming you pulled those pics from InfiniteCoolness.com? They've got some great screengrabs from the mini series.

Nice. Apparently they've made a graphic Novel for the Stand. Sounds pretty sweet, they're still working on chapter 3 at the moment apparently en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stand_(comics)Wouldn't mind getting my hands on them.

Despite not really needing it, I bought the 2 tape set of The Stand yesterday at Goodwill. It was only $2.

After reading you above post that it's OOP, I'll pick this one up soon. I want to watch this and Tommyknockers sometime next month.

Yeah if you can snag it for about $10 or less, that should be a good deal because it goes for a little more than that & sometimes double. Or if you see the VHS set around for a few bucks, just grab it. Make sure it's the complete set because at one time, each part was released on two tapes so you had to get all four to get the set. My tapes are recorded in EP so they fit the whole series on two tapes. Word.
