AKA Zombie Creeping Flesh, Virus, Cannibal Virus, Night of the Zombies, Zombie Inferno, Zombies of the Savanna, Inferno dei morti-viventi, & Zombi 2: Ultimate Nightmare.
A team of four commandos go to New Guinea to investigate a chemical leak at a research factory. They run into a reporter named Lia & her camera man Max...after both are nearly devoured by the living dead.
This movie is bad. Really bad. But is it bad in a good kind of way? Yes. Some hate this movie. As with most really bad zombie movies, I loved it. Filled to the brim with cheese, bad acting, bad dubbing, stock footage of animals running & jumping as well as stock footage of tribal people dancing, zombies getting shot anywhere but the head then finally the head, & gore gore gore. 102 minutes of pure schlock & I wouldn't have it any other way. It also ripped off Dawn of the Dead in numerous ways, which I'll get to in a bit.
Highlights include: a rat attacking a man & killing him while his partner watches & does nothing, Lia getting naked & wearing tribal paint to go amongst the tribe, Max looking like Yanni, a kid zombie devouring his father in a Land Rover, one of the commando members putting on a tutu & dancing before getting eaten by zombies, another commando running into crowds of zombies..taunting them & living to tell about it...until the film draws to the end, a tongue-rip followed by the hand going into the mouth & poking the eyes out, zombie tribe members attacking the living tribe members, a hilarious looking zombie priest(look at his facial expression), & a cat bursting out of an old lady zombie while she plays dead in a rocking chair. So look out for all of the above & then some!
Hell of the Living Dead rips off Dawn of the Dead a good bit. You'll notice some Goblin tracks from Dawn of the Dead in this movie. Also, there's a raid featuring a the commandos. They're dressed in attire similar to that of Roger & Peter from Dawn of the Dead. It's pretty evident & Hell of the Living Dead doesn't try to hide it.
There is a lot of random stock footage that adds to the laughter factor of the movie. Monkeys jumping in trees, animals running, animals attacking other animals, tribal dances, etc. It'll just make you laugh even more.
This film is violent & the gore is over the top. Not the goriest movie I've ever seen but still quite gory. Gorehounds and/or people who enjoy crappy movies will love this.
Directed by Bruno Mattei. Claudio Fragasso was one of the writers on this so you know this is a turd spray-painted gold immediately. Fragasso= quality!
Check it out! I picked up a double feature DVD with this movie plus Rats, another Mattei movie. It was under $10 brand new on the Amazon marketplace. Well worth it. Mattei is credited as Vincent Dawn on both films.
