Greetings. I found this interview with George Romero, and found it very interesting. Im not sure if it should be posted here, because he talks about almost all his zombie films, but a large portion of it is on ...of the dead. Hope you enjoy dschoenike oh yeah, i cant directly link to the interview, so just click on "speaking with the dead" an interview with George Romero www.homepageofthedead.com/baps/

Great article, but there are some things that have me concerned. Mainly, how Romero wants to do a "bunch" of films like DIARY, and how this new film has parts that use the same subjective camera style.
Blah.

Here are a couple of other quotes from Romero that sadden me...
"I don't think it will be as exciting, Diary had this unique quality to it and this one I'm not sure does. I like it a lot, but it doesn't have that flavor - Diary had this unique thing with the subjective camera and all that. Nobody knew about Cloverfield, when we were making it nobody knew about Cloverfield, that other people were doing it. But it had that touch of, some people called it, sophistication and it got good reviews. I think this film will get - my shit always gets mixed reviews - but I think this will get it's share of good reviews. The acting is terrific and there's obviously a point to it. But I don't know if...you know we just have to wait and see."
And then this bomb...
"Basically what I want to say is forgive me. I guess the basic thing that bugs me, the biggest thing that bugs me is that fans want me to do either the last movie I did or do another Dawn or do another this or do another that - and that pisses me off! That's not what I'm about! I'm gonna make a movie, look at it, if you don't like it that's fine. If you like it, then I love it. In other words don't punish me because this was not as good as Dawn. This is what I'm thinking right now, I'm making this movie right now, this is what I'm thinking, give it a break! Look at it, maybe it will take you two or three times to look at it, but look at it. All I can say is that I'm trying my best and don't punish me because it's not as "good" as Dawn, because Dawn was not even "good", it was fun, but it wasn't "good". I think this new movie, Blank of the dead, is much better in a cinematic sense than Dawn, but I worry that a lot of people might think it's not."
Damn.

Wow.
I'm actually glad that he has addressed the "Dawn" issue. I have to say, he is right. He's never going to make another Dawn, never. I also agree that if you don't like it, don't watch it. He's getting ballsy, that's for sure.

Good to hear that most of the film won't be in the subjective camera style.

He's getting ballsy, that's for sure. As much as I love George, he will NEVER top Dawn, especially in this day & age. I think he's great overall & pretty much like everything he's done but Dawn of the Dead is his masterpiece. Well, I'd put Night & Day up there as his masterpieces too since both of those are phenomenal as well.

I think the original Trilogy is one masterpiece. I see it as a bell curve, peaking with DAWN.

That's a good way of putting it, Fleshy. I have to agree there!

Even though Night and Day are on the low end of the curve, Land and Diary would be much lower. I don't mean to say that Night and Day are a lower quality film, but Dawn is just the peak of the series. It's very hard to have a constant plateau of greatness.

The bell with Night, Dawn, & Day would be a golden bell with a shitload of diamonds in it. There's no bad on that one! Lightning struck three times there.
Although I love Land & can enjoy Diary, they'd definitely be lower on the bell. Neither are in the same league as the first three movies. Land is really good for something made this decade though & I like Diary a good bit despite its many flaws.

I doubt it will top Land which is in my opinion the best of the series But I still have big expectations for this one because , the plot sounds interesting and original ( a cure for zombies ?) and it looks like that unlike Diary there's going to be a lot a gore which is always good for us zombie fans.

I don't think there will actually be a cure for zombies... I think that one of the main characters believes there could be one so he chains up zombies instead of killing them.
Also in that interview, George said there was more gore than DIARY, but it still wasn't a ton (like some of the previous films).
Is anyone else kind of bugged about Romero's backlash against DAWN? It kind of seems like he hates it.

I don't know if I bugged about it. I kind of understand that he's probably tired of hearing about it. But at the same time I feel like he isn't giving himself his due. He's basically telling people to not watch his new films if they expect another DAWN. I don't know anyone that is expecting another DAWN, but fans always walk into his films hoping that he can achieve the same greatness.
