From the Godfather of Gore, the late Lucio Fulci. A woman inherits an old run down hotel that is built over one of the seven doorways to hell. Years prior, an artist believed to be a warlock is murdered by a mob. This murder opens the doorway. I thought it was really good. Usually with Italian horror flicks, I have no idea what the heck is going on but I actually got this one the first time around. It was highly entertaining, had some really cheesy yet neat gore & make-up effects, a great atmosphere, a great score by Fabio Frizzi, & some ok acting. I love Fulci's cameo as the librarian that goes for lunch. I think the spider scene was pretty creepy yet well-done. There are a few eye-ripping scenes as well. The quicklime poured over the artist at the beginning was pretty neat too. I think my favourite was the dog ripping out the throat of Emily then biting her ear off. Lots of blood during that part. Overall, a very cool movie worth checking out if you can find it uncut for a good price. I don't know where I'd rank it since I've only seen it, City of the Living Dead, & Zombi 2. I also have The House by the Cemetery & Murder Rock to watch. I'll be getting The New York Ripper one of these days.

Great movie, and it showed that Fulci was no slouch either. He made some of the most f'd up creepy movies back in the late 70's to the early 80's and hopefully more people will get into them thanks to dvd.

Grindhouse Releasing is re-releasing this on DVD on October 28th(along with their long awaited release of Pieces). The Anchor Bay DVD has been out of print for awhile & a little expensive. I have the UK region 2 Vipco version as well as the Anchor Bay DVD, which I found a few weeks ago used somewhere for $6. Terrible condition but it plays fine. Woo!

Watched it a long time ago, It was gory but incoherent plot. I would give it 5/10.

Welcome to Italian cinema. A lot of their films have incoherent plots. After a few viewings, it's easier to get the plot of The Beyond. I'm surprised more people haven't seen this here. I still regard this as Fulci's best work(that I've seen anyway).
