I never tried originally either - the first time was by accident and the second time was after many many attempts.

I've blown up the rocket launcher a few times as well.
I remember buying the first RE for my Playstation back in '96. I was a happy 13 year old killing zombie scientists & researchers.
"Stop it! Don't open that door!"
The voice acting is legendary.

Haha! I remember that line! I bust em out every once in a while, but only my best friend ever gets it.
"Jill, you go and check out that strange noise. I'll stay here and look around..."

I once read in Maxim that GAR had been hired to write and direct the first one in this series....but the script he turned in was so bad that they fired him and went with someone else. I re-watched the first one earlier this week. Michelle Rodriquez was the only thing it had going for it....

Here is what IMDB says on the issue:
According to George A. Romero the rejection of his script was due to Bernd Eichinger. Everyone else associated with the pre-production apparently liked the script.
George A. Romero's unproduced script features the game character Jill Valentine as the female lead
Night of the Living Dead (1968) director George A. Romero was originally attached to write and direct, but left the project in 1999 due to creative differences over the script. The project was dormant for over a year before Paul W.S. Anderson signed on to write and direct the movie.
A newspaper in Racoon City reads "The Dead Walk!" This is a direct reference to Day of the Dead (1985), in which a newspaper at the beginning of the film reads the same.

Capcom producer Yoshiki Okamoto explained to the editors of Electronic Gaming Monthly that "Romero's script wasn't good, so Romero was fired".

The script they ended up going with wasn't that great either. It's still a fun movie but I would've liked to have seen Romero's Resident Evil.

I've always liked that commercial.
Brad Renfro as Leon Kennedy.

That is a bad ass commercial. If that's what GAR would have gave us... bring it on.

I read Romero's RE script, and you know what? It wasn't what I'd want to see in a RE film, but it was better than what we ended up with. And you know what could've fixed that? Handfuls of rewrites. The script could've worked.

I don't think they should have fired him on an initial draft. Like you said, that's what re-writes are for. A tweak here and there.
I regret the fact that the films are so far away from the games and novels. In retrospect, it doesn't make sense.

The first one was pretty good, but the second one sucked. I never saw the third one. The new animated one is awesome, and the best one in the series.

Capcom producer Yoshiki Okamoto explained to the editors of Electronic Gaming Monthly that "Romero's script wasn't good, so Romero was fired". <shrugs> Maybe I'm mixing it up with Day of the Dead, but I swear I read that the Reason Romero was fired was because he wasn't willing to tone it down for an MA15+ or PG-13 rating
