So has ol' Georgey Boy "officially" lost his spark now? I love him to death but I think it's time to give up the zombie movies. Yeah I was kind of worried about that

I also just noticed survival of the dead is all over the torrent sites kind of a shame. Little films like his are never gonna make money when its so easily downloaded and burned to a dvd. I just wish it would be released in theaters already. Id go and pay for a ticket. dschoenike

I just saw this. DVD is out in UK as of last week.
Had great potential but the CGI effects were really cartoonish in parts, many of the characters were obnoxious cliches, badly acted and he's veered from his usual "rules" somewhat.
I think I will like it more with more viewings. There is a lot to like here. The two Irish rival old men do some pretty good hamming it up. Just lazy from George. The CGI is really bad at times.
Aside from the CGI, my only big issue with the film was the army characters and the kid. Bad acting, bad dialogue and badly done characters. I cringed at the introduction of the "tough army chick".

At least from what I saw in the trailer, I think they did an acceptable job considering the budget.

Most of the Hollywood-level CGI I've seen is pretty poor too. Land of the Dead had a bigger budget than Diary & its CGI effects were still as poor.

How hard can it be to get a few plastic heads mounted on sticks?

Did someone post an article or something with George discussing how he primarily resorted to CGI because of time constraints?

Did someone post an article or something with George discussing how he primarily resorted to CGI because of time constraints? I believe so. It sounds kind of familiar. Too bad he couldn't go back & do some reshoots & use practical effects but I'm sure the budget wouldn't allow it....although the budget allowed Night, Dawn, & Day to kick all amounts of ass without CGI effects. I'd rather have had a plastic head that looked solid and 3 dimensional to the CGI Romero used. It looked terrible. Still can't comment on the CGI used in Survival aside from the glimpses of it in the trailers but I'll gladly take a plastic head over it any day of the week. Or something like Uncle Rege's head in NOTLD '90 when Barbara was using the fireplace poker on it. Despite it being fake, at least they kind of edited it well.
