Saw this yesterday and walked away quite satisfied. The film is awesome. It's your classic "wolfman" in every sense of the word--from setting to period to the look of the actual wolfman (which might be my favorite aspect of this movie). The cast is absolutely superb, with Benicio Del Toro taking on the main role (and he is awesome... I can't imagine anyone else in the role). Anthony Hopkins is great as always, Hugo Weaving pulls out another great (but underused) performance, and Emily Blunt plays a role I genuinely came to like a lot. What shocked me most about this take on the Wolfman is the gratuitous violence. We're talking decapitations, disembowelments, and limbs flying left and right. This is definitely not your tame wolfman experience. Also the scenery and cinematography are insanely awesome... the foggy countrysides, eerie dark mansion, awesomely lighted woods... it's all top-notch. Whoever was in charge of this should definitely get an Oscar. While it's not mind-blowing, The Wolfman definitely is recommended. I give it a solid B.

Oh and I might add that the use of CGI is well implemented... mainly for the transformation sequences. I love the fact that the actual wolfman is all makeup and costume, just like the classic.

That's good to hear that the actual wolfman is make-up & costume. I'd probably lose my mind if it was a CGI wolfman running around doing back-flips off exploding helicopters.
I heard that Rick Baker did the effects. Fuck, he could've used practical effects for the transformation. He did a hell of a job with it in An American Werewolf in London.

Yeah it's good to hear that the same guy from An American Werewolf in London is doing the effects. Gratutious Violence? Yay ! I can't wait .

I was a little weary of this when I first saw the preview, but your review has peaked my interest in it Tony. I don't think I'll be able to get the girlfriend to see it, but I wouldn't mind catching it at the theatre. How long does it go for?

I'm not positive what it is you're asking... runtime or how long it will be in theater, haha. I don't know the answer to the latter, but the runtime is about an hour and 40 minutes.

Sorry I meant the Run-Time. Thanks for the answer.
