In October of 1994, three student filmmakers disappeared in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland, while shooting a documentary.
A year later their footage was found.

Kudos to them for making millions off of a film that was made for a shoe string budget. Yeah it was ok. If it wasn't for all the hype though I'm not sure if I would've seen it.
Who actually thought or wasn't sure if it was real when they first saw it?

I knew it was fake, but I also remember when it first came out nobody really knew for sure. I think they did a fantastic job with the way they fooled so many people, and I think they sort of pioneered this new wave of viral marketing. For what it is, I still think it's a very effective horror movie.

I think it was an amazing effort. The movie itself....was okay. But man, you HAVE to take your hat off (I'll wait. Go get a hat, put it on and be ready to take it off) for making a largely distributed "lost foootage" film (IMO, Cannibal holocaust never got a fair shake and well, if anyone has seen The Last Broadcast, it may be THE most infuriating example of the genre ever!) AND the most successful viral marketing plan to date (and maybe since...but Cloverfield was effective, too).
They took a decent idea and made a phenomenon out of it.

Not overly into it but it was a super cool concept and executed well. Just not my thing really. I've only seen it once, mind you.

Pretty creepy for a low budget horror, but I would like it more if they actually showed the witch.

But that sort of defeats the whole purpose.
What we're not shown is what makes it scary. It also would have gone against it's original intent of being believable, real-life "lost footage". Nobody would have bought it for a second if suddenly the Wicked Witch of the West showed up.

(Pan Left) (Suddenly our crews sees...... THE WICKED WITH OF THE WEST!)
WICKED WITCH: Finally I have you my little pretties!! And your camera too!
Surprisingly, this flick was produced by a group of students from my college. Its pretty cool to think that it was cooked up right around the corner. I liked the movie, some parts gave me a good jolt. Way better than stuff like Paraboring Activity

That's cool! Which school is that again?
Yeah I thought it was pretty good for what it was, especially for the time in which it came out.
