Has anyone seen this? It's the 1989 thriller directed by James Cameron about a group of researchers who go underwater and find an alien presence. At least that's what I gather from the plot description I read.
I plan on watching it tonight, so please no spoilers. I just want to know if it's worth a damn, considering it's a nearly 3 hour long movie.

I found it interesting, worth a view. Ed Harris and Michael Biehn carried the film well.
Which version are you seeing the Directors Cut or the Theatrical cut? IMO the Directors cut is better as they included some more important interaction scenes with the aliens. Let me know when you've finished watching.

I just finished watching it. I'm not sure which version I watched (I watched it On Demand), but it was almost 3 hours long so I'm guessing it was the director's cut? Not really sure though.
I enjoyed it well enough. The last third of the film worked best for me, once Biehn was out of the picture (don't get me wrong, I love Michael Biehn, but the film seemed to pick up once he was gone). The beginning had too many dull stretches in my opinion... some of it could have definitely been cut. The stuff with the aliens was great.

Oops Correction its actually the Special Edition Version not the director's cut:
That was the first version I saw so I was confused when I saw it on TV again a while ago, with those parts omitted. Personally I liked the special edition version better and it seemed to make more sense to me when the aliens communicated with Bud, because in the Theatrical cut they just come off as a bunch of lovey dubby hippies trying to communicate with him in the words he sent his wife (in what he thought was his final moments)
I gotta agree I thought the scenes with the aliens were pretty cool and the special FX were pretty good as far as I remember them.
