Through countless zombie films, we see characters get splattered in the mouth with zombie blood, or as Brooks puts it "sludge." Wouldn't this turn them into zombies? Any oral contact with zombie sludge should have the same effects as being bitten.

Perhaps, but I think the rules are different in each different film/series.
Maybe in Romero's world, blood can't transfer whatever it is that makes people turn... maybe it's in the saliva only. It's tough to call really.

It's one of those things that logic doesn't agree with. The saliva is plausible.

Actually it was good to see this finally covered in Survival. I don't recall seeing any blood but that hispanic soldier (I forget his name) did himself in with biting off a zombies fingers. Must've tasted absolutely awful.
