The only one I agree with on the list is 28 DL. I suppose that in the end it's all up to taste.

I think that what Omer was hitting on is that you don't have Italy, Germany and other foreign nations making "great" horror films anymore. Not that they really did in the first place. I think the best foreign horror these days comes out of Japan, good stuff. Please Foreign horror films are better than anything U.S. has been spewing for the last 10 years. Heres a few: Descent 28 Days Later Pan's Labyrinth The Orphanage REC Cube Hell Shaun of the Dead while not a horror film was able to completely capture the Romero vibe. Considering its a comedy.....thats pretty pathetic. I don't really care about any of those films. Well, I did love Shaun of the Dead. I thought it was absolutely great. It's a romantic comedy & a horror filmed meshed together. One of its tagline is A romantic comedy. With zombies.

The Desent was boring. I liked the idea, just poorly executed. The creatures were not as effective as they should have been. Maybe it's the cave diving thing I didn't like, not sure. I watched it expecting more.

I liked "Pan's Labyrinth" alot, 28 Days Later was pretty good, and I liked Shaun of the Dead but all the others you listed dont go on a list of good in my opinion.

Its alright if you don't like them but, compared to what U.S. is getting now in days I rather take these foreign films anyday. In the last decade I enjoyed Severence, Ils, Funny Games, The Signal, The Host, the Ginger Snaps trilogy, 28 Days/Weeks Later, Creep, the Cube trilogy, Dog Soldiers, the Ringu trilogy, Nightwatch/Daywatch, The Pool, Shaun of the Dead, The Descent, Haute Tension...wait, I'm noticing a pattern here: all of these seem to be non-Hollywood, foreign, limited release or direct to DVD titles. Go figure. So anybody want to name any good films that hollywood has made that aren't remakes?

I will never understand all the hate you have for Hollywood. They actually make the best movies since they get the best directors, actors, writers, special effects etc.
Examples for some good hollywood horror:
All the Saw Films Hostel films Final Destination Films Dawn of the Dead Remake Land of the Dead Both Hills Have Eyes Remakes The Ring and its sequel The Grudge and its sequel Cloverfield Silent Hill
Most of them are great and there are many more I forgot. I suggest you all to change your Anti-Hollywood attitude.

Kinda agree there. I will never understand all the hate you have for Hollywood. They actually make the best movies since they get the best directors, actors, writers, special effects etc. Best Directors and Writers? I wish. By the way I don't hate Hollywood and Yes there quiet a few brilliant writers and directors in it.......I just wish there were some brilliant directors and writers when it comes to making horror films in Hollywood. Yes the first was brilliant I admit. The sequels though......Well Pt. 3 was ok.......Pt. 4 was crap. First was......fair.....nothing special. Pt 2 was just unnecessary. Sadly never seen them. Yes one remake they didn't screw up. I quiet liked this one. I still prefer the original but, as remakes go I think this is one of the better ones. As for Land I ain't saying nothing. Both Hills Have Eyes Remakes Haven't seen the originals. Saw them.....never bothered watching them again....I found them boring. The Grudge and its sequel I like the first one it was decent but, the second just killed it for me. This one I haven't seen yet either. Is it worth getting on dvd? Very average. Most of them are great and there are many more I forgot. I suggest you all to change your Anti-Hollywood attitude. Its only the horror genre that bothers me really......and maybe comedies to.....you know with that Epic and Date Movie and Meet the Spartans crap..........anyway, back to horror.....Look maybe some of the hollywood horror you mention are quiet decent but, with the exception of Saw......Will any of the other films you have mentioned actually be remembered 20 or 30 years from now, like Night of the living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Alien, Jaws, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Exorcist?

Just because a film has a big budget & a well-known director doesn't mean that film is automatically good. See films by Michael Bay. The Rock was pretty good though. That's the exception. Big names & big budget doesn't mean quality. I tend to avoid movies like that because most of them are loaded with shitty CGI effects that are overused & the emphasis is more on that than the films.
Hostel was ok. The Ring movies(& the movies they were remakes of) sucked ass as did The Grudge(& the movies they were remakes of. I saw Silent Hill & thought it was ok but nothing more.
As for telling us to change our "Anti-Hollywood attitudes," that's kind of a condescending thing to say. People disagree all the time on things. Perhaps you should be more accepting of different opinions. I'm not going to change my attitude & put my gameface on when I walk into the theaters to watch the next cinematic abortion starring Vin Diesel just because someone on a message board told me to do so.

That was my particular exception of a good Michael Bay film. Haha.
I've yet to see The Dark Knight but want to do so one of these days. I'll probably just pick it up on DVD when it comes out.

Correct me if i'm wrong but was'nt Land of the dead made almost entirely in canada? which geographically is a long way from hollywood. Perhaps hollywood had some hand in the financing of the film, but surely with it being made in canada (toronto i believe?) It cant be classed as being "Hollywood".
I know, before anybody says it, that Hollywood blockbusters are sometimes filmed in different country's but i think the Budget on Land compared with say the latest indiana jones movie would perhaps grant Land a reprieve of sorts?
Just a thought...dont savage me to badly haha

I believe you're right about Land being filmed in Canada.

People consider any film made by a big studio as "Hollywood". It doesn't matter if it was made in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Colorado.. It's still "Hollywood" to them. I say, if it's a good movie, it's a good movie. Regardless of who backed it.
I'm not a huge fan of Michael Bay, I really didn't know who he was before I saw Transformers. I remember watching the teaser for Formers and saying to myself "Who the F is Michael Bay?".
