Not forever...but long enough.
In Day, as Sarah is eavesdropping on Logan, she hears him say something like about how the rate of decay had slowed substantially, and that the ghouls could exist for a period of years. In cases of early revival 10-12 years, before decay starts to threaten mobility.

Imagine being in that bunker for that long. Talk about insanity. The Dr. trying to "civilize" them was useless. It would be a never ending chore, something that is impossible. It obviously had something to do with his own motivations and jollies.

I'd rather be in that bunker than anywhere topside, though. If I were down there, I'd whack Rhodes immediately and shut the operation down. Then, I'd take care of the ghouls inside the corral. From there, I'd come up with a plan to re-supply the bunker...but other than that, I'd be all about drinkin' beers and schmokin' weed!

They are right next to a city. Supplies wouldn't be hard to gather. Hell, I'd go Gator hunting, that's some good meat.
I'd wipe out all of Rhodes' lackies, kill Sarah's boy, and set up shop with the Jamaican. I suppose being in a bunker would be a little more doable without Rhodes and his boys.

Trust me--they were all enlisted men. None of them would've wanted revenge for Rhodes.
And, why kill Miguel? Just because he was weak is no reason to just kill him.

Just to get him out of the way. I like him, but I feel that he is unstable and could cause issues later on.
After some thought, the viewer really feels bad for Miguel. The poor guy has fallen into a state of shock, depression and borerline insanity. Maybe I wouldn't kill him. I just wouldn't allow him to handle any firearms, or asign him to anything that is important.

Well what we're forgetting is that they were put down in that bunker to try and solve the problem. As far as they knew, the government was still running and they had a chance to fix things. I think this is what stopped them from shooting anyone and starting up their own little democracy down in that bunker.

I suppose I will have to watch this again...
Didn't they also say that they hadn't spoken to Washinton in weeks?

Yeah, something along those lines.

I suppose I will have to watch this again... Didn't they also say that they hadn't spoken to Washinton in weeks? Something I didn't understand was when Billy remarked that they were on relays back then, they weren't over the air.Forgive my sorry stupid ignorance but what the hell are those?

I'm pretty certain when he's talking about relays, he's referring to some kind of device or tower or something that receives a signal, then sends it on to the next relay until it gets where it needs to go.
I'm not sure on all the technical jargon, but I hope you get my drift.

Since they are not recieving anything back, why would they continue on with the mission? Why wouldn't they just start their own democracy, their own "world." The US is in turmoil. As Flyboy says in Dawn, "Someone has to survive."

I think they're in that period of uncertainty... like maybe the government is still there, if they wait a little longer they might hear from them.

It's one of those things where you don't know when to stop waiting.
