FINALLY watched this on Friday night. Netflix had it on instant view throught the Wii. Enjoyed the hell out of it. I think it might actually go over Land for me. A huge improvement from gawd awful Diary. I'll buy it on disc, and put it with the rest of the series, sans Diary. Yes Yes! i saw that on the wii too! i was drunk off mah ass though so not sure whterh or not that enhanced in any way.

Finally saw this film and fell in love with it. George, welcome back. Thought you'd really lost your touch with DIARY.
Great writing, great casting, great locations. Really wish they'd shot this on film (it looks digital) and the CGI kills really detracted from things, but I can move past 'em. The early kill where the scalp lands on the guys head-stump had me ready to turn it off.

That kill was horrible. You can't honestly sit there and say you can see something like that fitting in with any of the original 3 movies.

I'm rewatching that scene now and honestly I can't find anything wrong with this gore effect, and I'm picky about effects. Yes, The kill is horrible, nasty and gory, but in a good way. Really creative.

The thing that's wrong with it is that it looks fake as hell.

The thing that's wrong with it is that it looks fake as hell. How can you know it's fake? Have you ever seen something like that in real life? I'm sure you haven't.

The thing that's wrong with it is that it looks fake as hell. How can you know it's fake? Have you ever seen something like that in real life? I'm sure you haven't. I thought I'd just jump in here before things escalate any further. Its like that old saying "Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder" . Lets just agree to disagree here. You both hail from different schools of thought when it comes to special FX and have different ideas about what constitutes awesome special FX. Tony is Old school (being raised on the horror movies of the past), and Omer you are new school (being raised on the newer generation of horror movies). There is nothing wrong with either of these schools and they both carry equal weight in my books with sometimes one being better then the other and vice versa depending on what purpose they're used for. The important thing to remember here is an opposing view about something you like is not a personal attack on you. It is merely a differing opinion of what someone constitutes as awesome. Also on that note if someone has a differing opinion then you on something that involves personal taste don't feel like you have to sway them over to your side or feel as though that they're wrong because of the difference in opinion. Right and wrong, and better or worse evaluations cannot be factored into any discussion on personal preferences. People can certainly try to have that discussion but it'll never go beyond anything more then a shit throwing match. Its like trying to argue which is the best band in the world. You can try and argue things like who has won the most awards or played the most sold out gigs, but in the end its just going to come down to personal taste. And now i'll give the podium to Dalton: ;D Rest assured I will tell you when not to be nice.

Very well said, Nick. I almost responded to Omer in a less than friendly manner, but I read your post and you're right.
My personal opinion as to why it looks fake, Omer, is that to me the effect is quite "in-your-face" CGI. Meaning it completely looks computer generated. That takes me out of the moment... because even the cheapest looking practical effect is still "real" in the sense that it's actually a real, physical thing on the screen. That will always be more effective in my books.

Watched it again and liked it a lot better the second time around. There are some dumb parts and it can be slow as hell but it's a pretty decent flick. I like it better than Diary, for sure, although I still think Diary isn't that bad.
I think if the effects were executed better, I'd probably like Survival even more. Most of the effects were abysmal minus the practical effects and gut munching at the end.
Zombies eating a horse was stupid though. That's right up there with Big Daddy in terms of retardedness.

As much, as people loathe Romero's recent films I can't help but, think they'll be just like the Star Wars Prequels. Sure we don't like them, but the hate will die with this generation. Just like no kids hate the SW prequels, I doubt future generations of Dead fans are gonna have the high expectations, and hopes we did when these were coming out. I'm not saying they won't be criticized, but I doubt we will ever get future fans going batshit over the latter films.

I like Survival, it was decent but not even close to the quality of the others... But it's better then Diary.
